Head of Software Engineering - Electron Microscopy
As the Head of Software Design, you will define the long-term software architecture and technology direction for Tescan's Electron Microscopy portfolio. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of software powering world-leading scientific instruments, bringing together technical vision, people leadership and close collaboration with the business.
What You'll Do
- Define the long-term software architecture and technology direction across Tescan's Electron Microscopy portfolio.
- Drive the evolution of our software platforms and help shape a unified architectural vision across our Electron Microscopy products.
- Lead, develop and inspire a team of approximately 25-30 software engineers.
- Create an environment where technical experts can grow, collaborate and take ownership.
- Work closely with Product Management, Engineering and other business stakeholders to align technology with product strategy and business goals.
- Collaborate with Project Leads and cross-functional teams, providing technical guidance and helping teams deliver strategic objectives.
- Lead architectural discussions and support technical decision-making across multiple software products.
- Foster engineering best practices and continuously improve the way software teams work.
- Strengthen collaboration between Software Design and Machine Learning teams, helping bring AI capabilities into future products.
- Contribute to technology roadmaps and strategic product decisions that will shape the next generation of Tescan solutions.
- Represent the Software Design organization in discussions with internal stakeholders, customers and academic partners.
What You'll Bring
- A university degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related technical field.
- Extensive experience leading software engineering teams, with the ambition and capability to lead a larger engineering organization.
- A strong background in software architecture and the development of complex software products.
- Experience working with modern software technologies, ideally including C++ and Python environments.
- The ability to define long-term technical direction while balancing business and customer needs.
- Experience collaborating across engineering, product and business functions.
- A collaborative leadership style built on trust, coaching and developing people.
- The confidence to lead technical discussions with engineers, product teams and external partners.
- A proactive mindset and the ability to drive positive change in a growing organization.
- Professional proficiency in English.
