Area Sales Director

Lead sales across a diverse EMEA territory covering the UK and Ireland, Israel, South Africa, the Nordics, and the Baltics. You will lead the regional sales team and distributor network, develop new business and key accounts, and turn sales strategy into consistent execution in the scientific instrumentation market.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead sales performance across the UK, Israel, South Africa, the Nordics, and the Baltics, working through a combination of direct sales, key accounts, and distributor channels.
  • Lead and develop the regional sales team, creating clear priorities, strong execution, and accountability against bookings, margin, and profit targets.
  • Turn regional sales strategy into action through structured territory planning, customer visits, prospecting, pipeline development, and accurate forecasting.
  • Drive new business while developing strategic key accounts across the region, identifying opportunities for sustainable growth and customer expansion.
  • Lead the team through complex, long-cycle sales processes, including demanding public-sector and university tenders.
  • Manage and develop distributor relationships while staying close to key customers and selected direct sales opportunities.
  • Monitor sales performance, pipeline health, and lead activity, adjusting priorities and tactics when opportunities or gaps emerge.
  • Work closely with Business Unit Managers, Product Sales Leads, NSR, Product Marketing, and Marketing to strengthen positioning, prospecting, and lead generation.
  • Coach and develop sales talent, building commercial capability and identifying future leaders who can support continued regional growth.
  • Spend at least 50% of your time travelling across the region, staying connected with your team, distributors, customers, and market opportunities.

What You’ll Bring

  • A bachelor's degree in physics, electrical engineering, or a related scientific or technical field.
  • At least 7 years of sales experience, including 3 or more years leading a sales team and hands-on experience in direct sales.
  • Experience selling high-end scientific or technical systems through complex, longer sales cycles. Experience in electron microscopy or scientific instrumentation is highly valued.
  • A genuine understanding of science and research environments, with enough technical depth to engage credibly with researchers and scientific customers.
  • Experience navigating formal tender processes, particularly within universities, research institutions, or the public sector.
  • A strong commercial mindset and a track record of delivering sales growth through disciplined planning, opportunity creation, and account development.
  • The ability to lead from the field - coaching people, working effectively with distributors, and ensuring agreed sales activities happen consistently.
  • Confidence using CRM systems such as Salesforce to manage pipelines, analyse performance, and improve forecasting.
  • Clear and credible communication skills, with the ability to connect commercial priorities, technical solutions, and customer needs.
  • An adaptable and accountable leadership style, with the resilience to work effectively through demanding sales processes and changing market conditions.
