Field Service Engineer

Join TESCAN as a Field Service Engineer and help customers keep their advanced scientific instruments performing at their best. Based in Hefei, you will install, maintain, and troubleshoot TESCAN systems while serving as a trusted technical partner to our customers. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, working independently, and continuously developing new skills.

What You’ll Do

• Install, commission, and validate TESCAN systems at customer sites, including pre-installation site surveys and acceptance testing.

• Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, calibration, and system optimization to ensure equipment reliability and long-term performance.

• Respond to on-site service requests, identify the root causes of technical issues, and implement effective corrective actions.

• Troubleshoot complex electromechanical, electronic, vacuum, digital, analog, and PC-based control systems.

• Train customers in instrument operation, basic maintenance, safety, and recommended operating practices.

• Prepare accurate and complete service reports, maintenance records, and corrective-action documentation.

• Collaborate with regional and global Field Service Engineers, Application Specialists, and Technical Support teams.

• Escalate unresolved technical issues appropriately and contribute to the continuous improvement of TESCAN products and services.

• Follow all applicable safety, quality, and regulatory requirements during field activities.

• Develop the technical competencies required to support additional TESCAN product lines as business needs evolve.

What You’ll Bring

• A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline—or equivalent relevant industry experience.

• Ideally, one to three years of field service experience involving scientific instruments, analytical instruments, semiconductor equipment, or high-vacuum systems.

• Experience with one or more electron microscopy technologies—such as SEM, FIB, or TEM/STEM—or with X-ray micro-CT systems would be a strong advantage.

• Hands-on knowledge of ultra-high-vacuum systems, precision mechanics, digital and analog electronics, or PC-based control systems.

• The ability to use diagnostic and test equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes.

• Strong diagnostic, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.

• Good written and spoken English for technical communication and collaboration with international teams.

• Strong customer-facing communication skills and the confidence to deliver technical training.

• The ability to work independently at customer sites while collaborating effectively within a global service organization.

• A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel extensively, typically 50–75% of your working time.

• The ability to lift and handle equipment components weighing up to approximately 23 kg.

• A proactive, accountable, and adaptable approach, together with a commitment to quality and continuous learning.
